nanowrimo

I was going to participate in nanowrimo this year. But due to life and just getting tied up in other things I decided to not do so. I am really just not ready to write anything novel based right now. So my apologies to those who expected something.

Kindle and Accessibility and Books and Reading

This is what my post primarily is about. I just got a kindle keyboard this week as an early birthday present and I absolutely love it. The built in text to speech is amazing although I wish Amazon would make other things accessible to the blind like browsing the store through the kindle web browser. But seriously I have really just about adopted the kindle as my only book reading solution. There are tons of books available for free out there that I can load up into this thing without spending another penny if I want. But I will buy books I am interested in. For anyone who isn’t familiar with the blind you must understand that ibooks on the iphone. Or the half way accessible kindle to the blind is a huge step out of the dark ages. Well, hmmm, maybe not dark ages. But for us seriously we just haven’t had this ability for a long time. I read many times people fussing about apple ibook and Amazon kindle book prices that I almost want to take all those fussing and complaining by the back of their necks and shake some sense into them. For me as just one blind person. I can find plenty of free and low cost books on amazon and other sources to last me a life time and longer so I am not complaining. For those of you seeking free books or low cost books. Subscribe to amazon’s daily deal for one. Two amazon has about 100 books a month that you can look through and pick titles you are interested in. I got some books for under 4 dollars about 5 of them from this months offering and saved approximately 20 or more dollars on each of those books Third there are plenty of websites like gutenberg and feedbooks and manybooks and others that offer free reading material a lot of which in my opinion anyway is a lot better than most new books out there today so give them a try and stop fussing for those of you who are. Same goes for people fussing about ibook prices on apple. Again search for the deals they are plainly available right in front of you. I have for the most part adopted the kindle as my book reader. But I don’t exclude ibooks. Both are good for book reading. And both stores have deals. I just like how amazon does their book selections better. I can’t tell you how many people have said to me once I got the kindle that they love the kindle because they can turn text to speech on and listen to a book in the car on their way to work. I am sure half or most of these people don’t know that is mostly a result of blind person getting upset with amazon for not making the kindle accessible to everyone. Well to Amazon keep up the accessibility please. It will increase your sales more than you know and it will help tons more people than you may realize and get more features available to those of us without sight so that we can read books even better than we already do those of us currently using kindle. Take care everyone.

Genesis 1:3-5

Brief Update

Hello. Things have been Crazy for quite some time. This is why I haven’t posted in a while. Things have calmed down for now.

INtroduction to Genesis Chapter 1 verses 3 through 5

These verses deal with God, light and darkness, day and night. Let’s take each individual topic briefly.

God

In this section there are four things God does. God said, it happened in verse 3.. In verse 4 God saw the light was good then He divided the light from the darkness. This actually makes me think a little. How could the light and darkness be together. Well honestly I just don’t know. But God divided them and then in verse five God called the two by different names. The time for the light was day and the time for the darkness was night.

Light and darkness

Not much to say here. God said let there be light and there was. darkness already was there as it states in verse 2. The light became day and the darkness night. And to God the light was good.

Day and Night

Day and night really for the most part go with the light and darkness except they also are stated as the first day in verse five.

Conclusion

Always the conclusion right now is these verses what you believe about them is where you stand in other things you belief. So decide. Did God create things in an orderly manner like the Scripture says He did. Or did they come to be just on their own?

Genesis 1:2

Introduction

Hello everyone. Today I will be talking about Genesis Chapter 1 verse 2. This is not for me the easiest verse to talk about mainly because there are so many interpretations as to what it means. I will simply stay basic. The verse is as follows from the King James Version:

Genesis 1:2: And the earth was without form, and Void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

What is this verse really talking about?

Well just for simplicity’s sake let us just stick with what the verse says. Apparently the earth was formless and empty and was covered with water And God’s spirit moved/hoovered some would say brooded upon that water.

What does all this mean?

Honestly I think with this verse this is where people get into arguments on debating stuff. Some will say that verse 2 is disconnected from verse 1 and there was a great catastrophe where God had to remake the earth. There are problems with this view mainly that when God finished creating everything He said it was very good. The other problem is every version I have read except a few that have had paragraphs have always grouped verses 1 and 2 in their own paragraph. Not that this is a big deal but I don’t think that that was personally accidental. I personally believe verses 1 and 2 are meant to be together. It creates strange teachings to separate them.

So what does it mean? Personally I think God is just telling us what He did before He started created things. And how it was. And I think personally it is as simple as that. Maybe later in life and as I study more I may think differently. But I do believe it is that simple.

What are we going to do about it? How does it apply to us?

As I said with Genesis 1:1 it determines as some would call it your world view and/or Christian view. If you believe what this verse says whole heartedly then you will not tend to allegorize God’s word. If you try to interpret it beyond what it is saying and try to explain something that really can’t be explained because we weren’t there you will tend to allegorize and symbolize God’s word and take other things out of context down the road.

As I said before and will probably say again. The final decision you make is completely up to you. I don’t have a PH.D. I am not a pastor. I am just a Christian who is simply stating things as I see God to be showing them through what I am taught at church and what the Holy Spirit shows me as I read God’s word.

Conclusion

Yes I know this wasn’t an exciting one today. But I find even for me Genesis 1:2 is confusing. If you keep it with Genesis 1:1 it isn’t so much. But still I personally believe it is something we can maybe grasp and get an idea what was going on. But I believe God will teach us certain things in eternity and I personally believe this will be one of them He teaches us. I of course could be wrong. But I am not going to say something totally outlandish either and teach false teaching. If I don’t know what His word is saying then I only state what it is obviously saying and trash any weird ideas I may have or other’s may have until the Lord Himself shows me the truth either through personal study of His word. Or through fellow believers and iron sharpening iron. I will not twist God’s word to make it say something it doesn’t say for any reason. Even if my simple thoughts seem foolish.

Electricity VS Internet

Ok. This is today’s dailypost question. Or another one.
It asks if you could do without one which would it be and why?
Silly in my opinion because you can’t have one without the other. Even if you have a computer that was battery powered you would still have to charge that battery by some means to get the internet.
The post also mentioned Steve Jobs passing which I had no clue had happened. I don’t watch the news as often as I should.
I believe that Steve Jobs did and allowed many great things. I have access to stuff today that I would have never had access to if not for apple. Whether Steve Jobs personally is the reason for this I don’t know. But I am greatful to him if he was. And of course always to apple.
Apple did something no other company has yet done completely. They made their products completely totally accessible to everyone including the blind. There are cell phones that talk. But none of them are like the iphone. Not a one. And kindle still can’t beat the iphone with the ibooks app as far as blind people are concerned. I know a person who has a kindle who is blind. They say it is ok. But they much prefer ibboks app through apple. HOwever they do use their kindle. But from how they described it to me I was like bleh. Not fully accessible. Not interested. The iphone does that a lot better. Unless amazon gets their kindle completely accessible like the iphone I will never buy one. I like complete total functionality / accessibility. Not half way. If apple can do it so can any other company.

I will be attempting nanowrimo this year and here is why.

This post is my thoughts on the post at the dailypost site.
It asks some questions. And I would just like to answer them from my viewpoint.
If you wish to read the actual post go here.

Does writing impromptu help me to write more or less?

I personally finding that writing impromtu helps me to write more. It gets my mind active and when I am not tied to rules I tend to write more freely. Of course as the post at the dailypost blog states this also can reduce the quality of the writing.

When I am forced to write does my quality suffer?

First I want to say that I am probably not the best of writers out there. So to question my quality of writing when I am trying to write so many words is well kind of silly I suppose. However I can safely say when I write freestyle I make more sense because I am releasing my thoughts onto the paper as they are in my head and this helps me vent and let things go and not bottle everything up inside. When I am stuck to a bunch of grammar rules and such I don’t get this same affect and more often than not my writing suffers when I tie myself to rules and guidelines.

Do I believe my writing can improve by participating in the nanowrimo writing challenge?

I personally believe it can. I have been participating in the post a day challenge from the dailypost blog now for a few days and I can safely say it helps me to learn to write better so that people can understand me better. It helps me to think about what I am writing before I write it down and thus my thoughts come out at least more clearly than normal. I still have a long way to go and whatever happens if I ever get near to having something published for money I will definitely need an editor to go over it. But challenges help us to focus. They help us to keep focused.

What is my personal view about nanowrimo’s views on writing a novel of fifty thousand words in November?

Well honestly. Their saying you will write a lot of crap I believe is true for a few reasons. When you write impromptu you often times don’t really think about what your writing. YOu just write it and let it develop as it goes. For me I have found I write best this way. For me I probably won’t produce as much “crap” as other people might. But it is just my style of writing. Now where I will mess up is in the research. What were the prisons like in AD 80 of 90 or such? What were the living conditions like? What was the economy like?

It is important to me to have as factual info as I can when I am writing anything.

Will I be participating in nanowrimo in November of this year?
Most definitely yes. If for no other reason than I have had a story in my mind for years that I would like to at least get a rough draft down. I can always go back and edit and redo certain scenes later and make it as historically accurate as possible. I think if one has the right perspective nanowrimo can be a good thing. I don’t think the goal is winning though. They may think it is. I am just participating for the challenge. I don’t really care whether I win or not. I am doing it to have fun to improve on my writing and to just be me. My nanowrimo blog is public and can be read here. And I don’t really care whether people take ideas from me or not as I will most likely never publish what I write anyway.

Genesis 1:1

Hello everyone.
I started this on another blog actually. But I like wordpress much better because I can have it automatically post to my facebook and twitter accounts.
Ok. About Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven(s) and the earth.
I personally believe the word heaven should be translated heavens in the king james version as the Hebrew word behind that word is plural. But I won’t insist upon it.
The thing I will say or ask today is what do we believe about this verse? Could one say that how one thinks of this verse affects one’s entire belief system?

What do we believe about this verse?
Well. What does the verse say? In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
If we believe this verse we believe that God created the heavens and the earth in the beginning when nothing else existed except Himself. It is really that simple.

Could one say that how one thinks of this verse affects one’s entire belief system?
I personally believe that yes it does affect one’s entire believe system. If one takes the verse at face value although simple it is profound. To believe this verse at all means you believe there is God. And what is more you believe that God created what it says He created. And generally taking this view you will take a more literal view about God’s word and take it seriously.

If you don’t believe this verse or believe only half of this verse then you will tend to take the Bible allegorically and/or not believe it at all.

My personal belief.

I believe that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth as it says. I believe in the Bible (God’s Word) very literally and very seriously. I will understand if you disagree with me but this is what I believe.

Challenge to readers of this post.

Have you ever thought about what you believe and how it may affect your whole life system? If not I ask you to please think about it today. And if you need to do something about it please do.

The price of following Christ. A poem I found while researching something.

Hello everyone. I sometimes will listen to a program called stories of great christians. This program recently has on one station anyway been playing the story of John and Betty Stam who were missionaries to China in the early 1930’s.
Due to everything that has been going on about this Iranian pastor I decided to see what I could find out what happened to these missionaries in China so I did a websearch. In searching for this info I found the info I was looking for and the poem I will share.
Before I do that though. I myself often think about what would I do if someone said I must do something or die for my faith. Or die simply because people wanted money or other things and no one could pay my ransom whatever that may be. Or whatever the reason.
My prayer is and always will be till I know differently that this Iranian pastor is not martyred. However I think we all need to remember that God is in control and although we may not understand why things go the way they do sometimes there is always a reason. And for Christians who are persecuted for what they believe and some who even die. God uses that is such a way that nothing can truly explain it except God’s hand working in a very sad very dark situation to make manifest His glory.
This poem which was written by a person who knew someone who died also for their faith in Christ like the Stams did asks us the question. I heard this poem a while ago I wish I could remember where but I don’t. Having it come up again though as I said I believe is God reminding me of things I have long forgotten and also showing me that there is nothing to fear really. That everything even bad things work together for good to those who love God and are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28. I love Romans Chapter 8.
Anyway the poem. And ask yourselves if your Christianity just a way for you escape hell. Or do you really love your Lord and Saviour and would you say I can not if someone asked you to renounce your faith and believe another religious beliefs just to save your life? What is more important to us? Living as Christ would have us live and letting His glory be made manifest. Or living our own lives as we choose maybe having a good time for a while but not content at all because we haven’t sacrificed anything for One who sacrificed all for us?
Here is the poem. If you wish to find John and Betty Stam’s story do a google search for it it will come up. And one of the first sites will also talk about this poem. Don’t misunderstand me death isn’t nice. And we should never sit back and wait for a person to die even if it is for their faith in Christ. But afraid. Are we afraid to speak the truth no matter the cost if it may cost us everything possibly even our lives to do so?

Poem:

The poem, entitled “Afraid?” was written by Presbyterian missionary E.H. Hamilton following the recent martyrdom of one of his colleagues, J.W. Vinson, at the hands of rebel soldiers in northern China. A small Chinese girl who escaped from the bandits related the incident that provided the inspiration for Hamilton’s poem.

“Are you afraid?” the bandits asked Vinson as they menacingly waved a gun in front of him.

“No,” he replied with complete assurance. “If you shoot, I go straight to heaven.”

His decapitated body was found later.

Afraid? Of what?
To feel the spirit’s glad release?
To pass from pain to perfect peace,
The strife and strain of life to cease?
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
Afraid to see the Saviour’s face,
To hear His welcome, and to trace,
The glory gleam from wounds of grace,
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
A flash – a crash – a pierced heart;
Brief darkness – Light – O Heaven’s art!
A wound of His a counterpart!
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
To enter into Heaven’s rest,
And yet to serve the Master blessed?
From service good to service best?
Afraid? Of that?

Afraid? Of what?
To do by death what life could not –
Baptize with blood a stony plot,
Till souls shall blossom from the spot?
Afraid? Of that?

My personal view on the death penalty based on today’s The Daily Post WordPress page

I do not have today the Bible verses to back me up. So I will just state my thoughts on the death penalty or at least what the proper interpretation should be.
The Daily Post Word Press says one thing that caught my attention. I am paraphrasing.
Would you even promote the death penalty if you risked being wrong.
My answer to that is if there is any doubt whatsoever that a person is guilty of killing someone. Then they should not be convicted of such a crime. Yes that could mean bad people might run the streets but at the same time if there is doubt you risk being wrong.
My view on the death penalty is simple. If someone killed someone because they hated them or any premeditated reason then they should pay with their life if for no other reason than to make the statement to people you do this this is what will happen to you.
Having said that what about self defense. What if someone is trying to kill you and you kill them instead.
Or what if you kill someone by accident for one reason or another.
Well again I don’t have Bible references for this. But in the times of Israel when this sort of thing happened whether you killed accidentally or in self defense a city of refuge was there for you to go too. You had to stay there though for your own safety because if the family members of the person you accidentally killed wished to kil
you and you left the city you would be unprotected.
Killing another human being is never good no matter the reason. It always has consequences.
I can give you one verse. After the flood in Genesis Chapter 9 it says. If man shed man’s blood by man shall his blood be shed.
This is in Genesis chapter 9 if you wish to read it.
I personally believe if there isn’t proof that someone killed someone then one has no right convicting them of the crime.
If there is no doubt whatsoever that they did it. Then they need to be dealt with.
If it was accidental in one way or another then refuge should be provided for their safety/protection until it is sure that they will be safe.

About me

Hello. If you wish to know anything about me visit the pages listed on my blog such as my brief story, a bit more about me and such.
Thank you.

God’s sense of humour?

This was actually something I posted to a class I take part in online. I thought I would post it here too. As really this blog is not so much post on a whim. Eventually I want it to be more Bible than current events. Or more importantly what I want it to be is the Bible mixed in with every day life events. I am not sure I am saying this right. But that is my desire.
Maybe a response to the dailypost wordpress challenge and then another focused on the daily Bible study I did or maybe just like this one things God shows me in His wonderful perfect timing. Only He could release such a nice little bop on the head and not have it hurt too much.

And sorry for the old English spelling of our vs or on certain words. It just is the way I spell my words. Always have.
Anyway. I took a nap this afternoon. And I dreamt of a song that wow I haven’t heard in years and I mean years.
Soemtimes I should just wait and let the Lord give me the words to say because I could have added this to my earlier post to assure you guys I truly to believe in grace. I don’t believe in salvation by works. Although I do believe saved men and women should do good works but I believe it is proof that they are indeed saved.
Anyway I wish I could sing this for you. and I only remember the chorus.
His grace is sufficient for me
His love is abundant and free
Oh what joy fills my soul just to know just to know
That His grace is sufficient for me.

I am serious I know have haven’t sung that song for at least twenty years if not longer. And I definitely haven’t heard it sung in that period of time.
It is like this Iranian pastor that I am still praying for although the Lord has given me peace about him. I still pray for him and his family.
Sunday I was in church and I had this melody going through my head just out of the blue. Our church sings different words to it. But I believe the Lord or maybe myself cut off its memory because to remember the words of that song would aggrevate me.
I was sitting there in church sunday morning waiting for our brief beginning of the day message before Sunday school and I was humming the tune. All of a sudden I grabbed my iphone opened up mantis bible study opened up the hymnal module and looked up Am I a soldier of the Cross.
Read the words wanted to throw the phone across the room bu instead bowed my head and prayed.
I still wasn’t comforted because I know what the Lord was telling me to realize. So I picked up the phone again. flicked my finger across the screen again and had those words being read to me again. Again I wanted to fling the phone across the room and cry out. Again I just bowed my head and prayed.
It was like that all day Sunday. In the afternoon I downloaded some songs by Steve Green. I just let them play in order. and the first two songs were.
Broken and Spilled Out. And
I am crucified with Christ.
The third I believe was find us Faithful. You can imagine by this time how aggrevated I was. I couldn’t find anything about the pastor and how he was online. I just kept getting bombarded by songs in church and out of our duty as Christians and how sometimes we may suffer and we are actually called to suffer and I was upset. I was crying.
And finally the Lord calmed my heart and my spirit. And I was able to smile. Even after dropping my iphone on the floor and cracking its screen grrrr. I think it will be ok as long as I don’t drop it too many times again. I don’t have money for a new one right now. But in all of what happened yesterday. I still know nothing about this pastor. But really either God has a sense of humour although it may be a bit dry. Or He is reopening some things to me that He either shut for a while. Or I might have shut for a while.
Either way people. If you aren’t going to church currently. Please find one and go. The Scriptures say we shouldn’t forsake the assembling of ourselves together. I am one reason. Or what happened to me is just proof to me of one reason why. We need that fellowship if for nothing more than to keep us stable and keep us focused on Christ. Even if we don’t talk much to those around us. Just being there with fellow believers helps. It really does. So please don’t forsake that. At the same time find a good Bible believing church. Don’t go to one that twists God’s word or call things good that are not according to God’s word. Find one that is truly teaching God’s word as it should be taught. And grow there.
Take care everyone.
I am crucified with Christ therefore I no longer live. Jesus Christ now lives in me.
